Adios, Seoul.

I'm not longer in Seoul, I turned all of the mallets/balls over to someone else. Good luck to anyone over there getting it started.

Court found!

I found the an ideal court for polo, an inline hockey rink, at the Jamsil Sports Complex. It's nice and central too.
I've got balls!
I talked to the owner of Byclipse and some other dudes who sounded interested in polo at the Banpo Bridge on Sunday. They sound like they're down. I'm thinking we need to get a game going maybe Saturday, May 29th.

It's getting serious now

My bike arrived in the mail this week.

I've been spinning my ass off around town on my awkward 39/21 gear ratio. I've got a different drivetrain in the mail, that should get here early this week.

I also went to this hardware store market in Jongno-3. After much hunting, I found a guy who ran a PVC stall who spoke great English, he made some phone calls and wrote down directions to a place around Dongmyo (I think) who sold HDPE piping.

I am now the proud owner of 6 meters of HDPE. I chopped it up into mallet heads and now I just need to find some bolts to put the mallet together.

I also ordered some Mylec Cool Weather No-Bounce street hockey balls off of G-Market. No luck on finding hot weather balls, so let me know if you have any info on that. But these should suffice for now.

I'm also, less urgently, trying to find some corrugated plastic or any other equivalent for wheel covers.

Now we need to find a place to play.

Shoot me an e-mail (rmsherwood at gmail dot com) if you're reading this and interested in playing. I'm trying to get together as many contacts as possible so I can begin to set a day to get people together and start.

Getting Started

I'm starting to gather resources for Bike Polo here in Seoul. I came in November. I'm hoping we can start playing once it gets warmer.

I brought 9 drilled/gripped ski poles and one street hockey ball.

Let me know if you're interested in playing, I'm starting to get everything together.

We need to find a central location to play too. I'm in Dobong, which is pretty far north but I'm willing to commute some kilometers to play. So if you think you know of anything that might work as a court let me know.

Also let me know if you know where to buy:

  • HDPE or ABS for mallet heads
  • Street hockey balls
  • Cones or something to mark the goals
